History Of QHA
The Religious Society of Friends, commonly known as ‘Quakers’ is a Christian organisation which began life in the middle of the 17th C. If you would like more information on Quakers please visit the BYM site and the fascinating Quaker Tapestry site. |
 | Quakers have always been eager to promote peace and harmony and to alleviate suffering by practical action. Quaker Homeless Action, which seeks to address the problem of homelessness in contemporary Britain is one small example of Quaker ‘hands-on’ practical help. |
| Quaker Homeless Action was established over 30 years ago when a group of Friends realised there was a need for an extension to the existing soup run service to offer food, shelter and Friendship to homeless people at Christmas, when many other services in Central London were closed. The Open Christmas project has been our main focus for many years and more recently we have established a Mobile Library service to provide books and friendship to people who are excluded from Public Libraries. At the moment we are working to develop a Befriending Scheme to support newly housed ex-homeless people. |
